Professional Logging Services
Logging is about more than just removing trees. It's about achieving your goals while protecting what matters most.
At High Mountain Resources, we work with private landowners throughout Northwestern Oregon to provide tailored logging solutions. Whether you're looking to harvest timber, improve forest health, clear land for development, or manage your property, we approach every project with the same commitment: quality workmanship and respect for your land.

What Professional Logging Does
Effective logging is a partnership between your goals and the realities of your property. The right approach depends on your land, your timeline, and what you want to accomplish.
Done right, a logging project can:
- Provide financial returns from timber sales
- Clear land for development or future use
- Improve overall forest health
- Reduce fire risk and overgrowth
- Increase accessibility across your property
- Create opportunities for land restoration
For many landowners, logging is a significant decision. It should be handled by people who understand both the business and the responsibility.
Key Principles of Sustainable Forest Management
Sustainable forest management means understanding the species composition of your forest and whether the mix is right for your goals. It means recognizing when trees are competing for resources and when selective removal would strengthen the stand. It means being aware of soil health, water systems, and wildlife needs as you make harvesting decisions.
This approach protects streams by limiting harvest activity in riparian areas and preserves steep slopes where logging would cause erosion. It leaves habitat corridors and mast-producing trees for wildlife and maintains the structural diversity of the forest rather than creating a monoculture. When done right, forest management improves both the land and the timber value simultaneously.
When Logging Makes Sense
There are many reasons a landowner might consider logging:
- You want to harvest timber for financial benefit
- Your property has become overgrown or dense
- You're planning a land use change
- You want to reduce fire risk
- You need improved access through the property
- You're working toward long-term forest management goals
The key is understanding what's actually on your land and what's realistic to accomplish.

How We Approach Logging
Every project starts with understanding your priorities.
We take time to:
- Walk the property with you and assess conditions
- Discuss your goals and timeline
- Understand any constraints or concerns
- Manage all aspects—cutting, yarding, loading, and trucking
We handle the complete logging operation. In most cases, there's no out-of-pocket cost to you, and the timber value can put a substantial amount of money in your pocket.
The harvest method we use depends on what makes sense for your specific situation. That might mean selective logging, thinning, clear-cutting, or targeting specific species. There's no standard formula that works for every property.
Slash Management and Site Cleanup
Proper slash management is an essential part of a complete logging project. We machine pile slash adequately to prepare the site for replanting, make the land accessible again, and create burnable piles when burning is appropriate. We also clean up landings and work areas so the property is ready for whatever comes next.
The goal is to leave your land in good condition and minimize the visual impact of the work. A well-executed logging project, combined with proper site cleanup, can set the stage for the land's next chapter.
Logging in Northwestern Oregon
We provide logging services throughout Northwestern Oregon, including areas around Cottage Grove, Roseburg, Oakridge, and along the Highway 58 corridor.
Local terrain, timber types, and regional conditions all influence how logging should be executed. Experience in this specific region matters.

Logging FAQs
How do I know if my timber is ready to harvest?
It depends on species, age, density, and your long-term goals. A site visit is the best way to determine the right timing.
Will logging damage my property?
Thoughtfully planned logging minimizes impact to the land. We work to protect streams, limit activity on steep slopes, and preserve habitat where appropriate.
What are my options for the harvest method?
It depends on your goals and property. We can do selective logging, thinning, clear cutting, or target specific tree species. We'll discuss what makes sense for your situation.
Will there be an out-of-pocket cost to me?
Usually not. In most cases, timber value covers the logging costs. We'll discuss this upfront.
How long does a logging project take?
Timeline depends on the size of the property and scope of work. We'll establish a clear timeline during our initial consultation.

Let's Get Started
If you're considering logging for your property, the best place to start is a conversation about your goals. We'll walk the land with you, assess what's there, and help you understand your options.
Experience
With over 40 years of experience in the timber industry, the folks at High Mountain Resources know how to serve you. From quality workmanship to knowledge of other aspects of forestry, we give the landowner assurance that their job is being done right and that their property is in capable hands.
Practices
We address environmental challenges with an ethical approach. Streams, slopes and wildlife are all examples of these challenges. In these cases, we usually fall trees away from streams, limit work on steep and unstable slopes and usually leave habitat for wildlife to mitigate the effect of timber harvesting.
Selling Your Logs
Getting the most for your logs is more than just selling to the highest bidder. It is the art of knowing where to cut your logs to maximize grade and scale which are the basis on which logs are priced and sold. It is the ability and willingness to sort and sell logs to multiple buyers. That's where we can help.
Consulting
Not sure what to do with your timberland? We help landowners understand their options. Whether you're looking to harvest, manage for the long term, sell, or improve property access, we'll walk your land, listen to your goals, and provide honest guidance on what's realistic for your situation. No obligation—just straightforward advice.
Client Testimonials
Ken Groat has been a valuable part of our tree farm for many years. His knowledge of forest practices, timber markets, and operations has been a tremendous asset. Ken developed a strong relationship with my father and continues to be someone our family can count on for advice, guidance, and help when needed.
Will A., Family Tree Farm
We hired High Mountain Resources to log four acres of our woodland lot in 2025. Ken was professional, timely, and handled our neighbors' concerns with care. He even helped coordinate the access road and prepare the property for replanting. The entire process was straightforward, and our timber payments arrived promptly.
I highly recommend High Mountain Resources for small woodland projects.
Wayne H.
Ken was knowledgeable, cautious, and well connected with local timber buyers. He helped us make the most of our property while preserving its natural beauty and important shade trees. The finished property looks like a park, and we no longer worry about trees threatening our home. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
