Lorane - Siuslaw Rd. Project
Complexity
Willing to work closely with the state
In the winter of 2021 we were contacted by an out of state property owner who recently had purchased approximately 100-acres of timber ground near Lorane. This property was plagued with obstacles to any kind of harvest due to its proximity to the Siuslaw River. Working closely with the state, a temporary bridge was able to be placed over the river during the summer season so that salmon spawning was not disturbed. The riparian management areas were extensive and also included buffers along a tributary to the river. Thirteen acres were harvested during a short operating season and the bridge was removed, the slash was piled and the ground replanted. It is now a family tree farm.

Ability to balance income and aesthetics
In 2021 High Mountain Resources contracted to remove all timber which would potentially fall on a home on approximately 14 acres south of Eugene. The remainder of the property was well stocked with 70-year-old timber which the owner wanted thinned for health and aesthetics. As a result, she received substantial income from the operation and the nervous neighbors were well satisfied with the outcome.
Cottage Grove – Veatch Rd. Project
Stand improvement
In 2021 on a 100-acres parcel near Cottage Grove, an entry was made to harvest all dead and dying timber in a mixed stand of 80-year-old timber. White fir was the primary target as it made up a substantial portion of the volume and was the bulk of mortality in the stand. A decision was made to remove 100% of the white fir on about two-thirds of the parcel and retain all white fir in the remaining stand where it was healthy.
Any Douglas fir with conk or broken tops were also removed, with some attention to crown spacing, over most of the property.
Small slash piles were created within the residual stand to centralize debris for burning. Landings were machine piled and firewood decks made accessible to the owner.
Many access trails were also introduced which would accommodate the elderly owner’s UTV or fire suppression units.
The goals of the project were to clean up the stand, stop the spreading of white fir mortality, turn a dying resource into revenue and create access and fire breaks looking to the future.
Veneta – Central Rd. Project
Understory Removal
In 2017, an understory removal was done on a large property which had a variety of stands and ages of timber. The youngest stand was planted in 1988 and was all Douglas fir that had been thinned lightly twice. The trees were markedly bigger than those on the adjacent property that were planted at the same time. Diameter, as well as crown spacing, determined which trees were cut. Logging was done with a small skidder to minimize damage to residual trees. The result was aesthetically pleasing and produced a healthy and very vigorous forest.
The oldest stand had substantial damage from a recent storm. Many trees were uprooted but most of the damage was a result of high winds snapping the timber at about 50% of the total tree height. At the same time that the clean up was done, an understory removal was performed which also brought in revenue. The slash was piled within the stand and the result was very park-like due to the even age forest that remained.
Grand Ronde Project
Final harvest and select cut for resale of property
In 2011, for the purpose of generating income and selling a 90-acre tree farm, a final harvest was done on a large scale with all hardwoods remaining in the clear-cut areas. Haul roads were constructed, and water resources protected. Due to the large size of the timber, extensive marketing was in order to maximize the timber revenue.
Within the harvest area, great care had to be taken to select buffers and pockets of “leave trees” to mitigate the effects of a large clear-cut on the remaining property. Even the extensive network of hiking trails was addressed with trees and brush retained on each side of the trails throughout most of the property. All slash was machine piled and burned. The property was replanted and the haul roads decommissioned.
This eye for detail resulted in the owner being able to sell the home and property for top dollar before it was even listed.
Let's Get Started
If you're considering a timber harvest, the best place to start is a walk through the property. We'll take a look at what you have, discuss your goals, and help you understand the opportunities available to you.
Experience
With over 40 years of experience in the timber industry, the folks at High Mountain Resources know how to serve you. From quality workmanship to knowledge of other aspects of forestry, we give the landowner assurance that their job is being done right and that their property is in capable hands.
Practices
We address environmental challenges with an ethical approach. Streams, slopes and wildlife are all examples of these challenges. In these cases, we usually fall trees away from streams, limit work on steep and unstable slopes and usually leave habitat for wildlife to mitigate the effect of timber harvesting.
Selling Your Logs
Getting the most for your logs is more than just selling to the highest bidder. It is the art of knowing where to cut your logs to maximize grade and scale which are the basis on which logs are priced and sold. It is the ability and willingness to sort and sell logs to multiple buyers. That's where we can help.
Consulting
Not sure what to do with your timberland? We help landowners understand their options. Whether you're looking to harvest, manage for the long term, sell, or improve property access, we'll walk your land, listen to your goals, and provide honest guidance on what's realistic for your situation. No obligation—just straightforward advice.

Will A., Family Tree Farm
We hired High Mountain Resources to log four acres of our woodland lot in 2025. Ken was professional, timely, and handled our neighbors' concerns with care. He even helped coordinate the access road and prepare the property for replanting. The entire process was straightforward, and our timber payments arrived promptly.
I highly recommend High Mountain Resources for small woodland projects.
Wayne H.
Ken was knowledgeable, cautious, and well connected with local timber buyers. He helped us make the most of our property while preserving its natural beauty and important shade trees. The finished property looks like a park, and we no longer worry about trees threatening our home. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
